Citrus Colors for the Kitchen

I have been adding color to my kitchen in ways that are easy to update.  My husband is a neutral pallett person, so I don't want to add anything that can't be easily changed, updated, or moved as needed.

I have been adding yellow  and apple green with  hints of red and creamy white to my modern style kitchen.    This is a "before" photo, showing how truly neutral the kitchen is today.

Believe me when I say our kitchen is not this clutter free - it was this way because of a photo shoot and we needed to have everything very tidy.

Also these colors, apple green, yellow, and red all go well in the fall.  Fall is my absolute favorite time.  I can just see my pumpkins and gourds mixed into this color scheme so well.

Here's an inspiration piece, a little paper gift box.  Note all of the colors in  the box.  Also the apples (fake ones from Home Goods!) look so pretty on my free World Market cupcake stand.  If you sign up for WM emails, you get $10 off $10 purchase for your BDay.  I got this back in May and they had free shipping going on all orders so this was a fun little present to myself.

In order to get more yellow, I decided to paint my knife blocks yellow.  I have 2 inexpensive ones from IKEA.

So I started with the world's cheapest drop cloth to protect my island - a Sierra Mist  box.  Just split it open and use it to catch paint drips.  Hey - it even has my colors on the box!

Then I used a free Glidden quart paint sample -  Sparkling Mimosa - I wish they would run that sample program again!  I must have about 8 free quarts!  Fun colors to do little projects with :)

Here are the blocks in the middle of painting them.  Notice the labels I am painting also, those are stickers that were white.  I am going to use a sharpie or a paint pen and write flour, sugar, etc. on them and stick 'em on my canisters.  Another touch of my Mimosa yellow!  This color did not photograph well - I think I don't have enough light in the kitchen in the a.m.  It is a bright sunny yellow with a pale green undertone, very citrus.

This is all for now, I will finish up this week and show you the results.  I gotta run and take a kid to the dentist!  I almost forgot......!

I am posting this on Wow Us Wednesdays on Saavy Southern Style.  I am also posting this on Pink Postcard for that linky party as well.

  1. Yummy colors. They're great for a kitchen and I like your WM cupcake holder with the apples. We hava a WM near us and they see me quite often. :) Great tip for using the Sierra Mist boxes. I like to recycle wherever I can, too.
Thanks for stopping by with nice comments on my sheep. Now which 'end' was that? North or South? LOL
